The Future of Home Management with AI
In today's world, artificial intelligence (AI) is already transforming many aspects of our lives. In this article, I find some helpful tools that you can use to help you be more productive.
I recently discovered the benefits of productivity tools when caring for my mother, who suffered a stroke over a year ago. Caring for an elderly parent can be overwhelming and stressful, making it hard to keep track of everything that needs to get done and appointments to keep. As someone who makes being organized part of her daily life and routine, even I found caring for an elderly parent tough and challenging. I can write more about this topic in a future blog post. Let me know in the comments if you are interested in organizing while caring for an elder. Today, however, I am exploring more tools that make running a household no matter what size it is, easier and helpful to run one’s life.
The first helpful tool I found was the Amazon Echo Dot, which I gave to my mom as a Christmas gift, last year. I linked to her Amazon Prime account and programmed the “Alexa App” to remind her to take her pills at specific times. Alexa's polite reminders ensure my mom never misses her medication. I was immediately impressed because the task hadn’t completely landed on me.
Alexa, not only relieved me of some stress of keeping track of important appointments and reminders. But the Alexa app has been rather entertaining as well. When my mom asks me some random question about anything, I can say to my mom to ask Alexa any questions that occur to her. This experience inspired me to explore other ways productivity tools specifically AI tools can assist a person in their home. Can these tools help us maintain or support a part of our daily lives?
In this article, I’ll look at ways in which AI helps keep different rooms in a home organized and running smoothly. From the kitchen to the garage, discover practical AI solutions that can simplify our daily routines and enhance our home organization efforts. I'll share five ways you can use these productivity tools to stay organized and simplify your home life.
Even though many questions will come up about the integrity of using AI. I am putting that discussion aside when we can talk about privacy and all that it entails when implementing these AI tools. Just as small appliances were designed for our kitchens, I see AI as a productivity tool that offers assistance to simplify our lives. I will leave it up to you to decide how well they fit into your own life.
Smart Assistants for Home Management
Let's start by walking through a day in the life of AI's daily integration. This is how you would implement these tools daily. Let’s say it’s a bright sunny day and as soon as you wake up and before you get out of bed you want to open the shades to enjoy the sunshine. You would either say out loud and give a command to open the shades, or you would grab the app on the phone to an easy toggle to open the shade. Viola, your day is starting with sunshine.
The AI provides voice control over these tasks. Many different brands work on a similar principle, they control using a hand-held device, and a touchpad gives a command. Most products I come across are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, and Google Home. Some smart blinds use Bluetooth as a default.
Next, you go to that bathroom to brush your teeth and get ready. The bathroom often serves as the family headquarters, where reminders on sticky notes land and where conversations begin about the day. Even though smart mirrors are available for the bathroom, displaying daily schedules, reminders, weather updates, and tracking personal care products, I believe some spaces are made for privacy and should remain simple. Consider keeping the multi-tasking to a minimum, remember, simplicity can be just as valuable. Any way with a voice command you can have your agenda said out loud to you.
AI in the Kitchen
Walking Into the kitchen next, you see many ways that new design has upgraded our lives. But Ai has taken them up to a new level. For example: the coffee pot has a timer with your coffee ready, this is nothing new but what about the refrigerator? You can now call the refrigerator “Smart”. Smart refrigerators can help you manage inventory by creating automatic grocery lists, tracking expired dates to reduce food waste, and suggesting recipes based on available ingredients. This tool is great for meal planning.
Fitness and Wellness with AI
Are you going to work out or go stretch with some yoga next? Exercise equipment might be improved with AI for those high-performing athletes, but for the everyday person who wants to squeeze in some fitness in their life to stay healthy and not put on any more pounds than they have to, then the fitness trackers are helpful to keep your data and report it back to you so that you can make better choices. Will Ai replace a health fitness coach? I don’t think so.
Of course, AI can indeed create a customized exercise and fitness routine just for you, and it can monitor your progress, just as well as a fitness coach can, but there is nothing like the human quality of accountability, to keep you honest. I can already see so many people trying to psych out their AI tools to cheat themself of a true workout. Remember the desktop mouse you could get to move on its own, trying to make it look like you're doing remote work?
Smart Wardrobes for Easy Fashion Choices
So after your workout, you shower and get ready to change into something stylish for the day. If you are like me and have trouble finding what to wear or forget that my favorite outfit is in the hamper, then the struggle is real to find what to wear. This will now be a struggle of the past if you implement AI tools for fashion. Yes, There is an app for that. I recently learned about “Whering”. It’s an app that will remind you of everything you own and make style suggestions. You no longer will have the “I have nothing to wear” dilemma ever again. AI wardrobe apps make it easy and fun to organize your closet, plan outfits, and get more from the pieces you already own. Apps like Stylebook, Cladwell, and Smart Closet let you digitize your wardrobe, helping you keep things stylish and streamlined.
To make “Whering” work, all you’ll need to do is upload photos of your clothes and you use it when you need to make style choices. If you’re ready to let an item go, you can put it on their marketplace to sell it or simply donate it. As long as all your clothes are not strewn all over the floor and instead are hung on their hangers or folded in their drawers then your morning just got easier.
If you are struggling to put your clothes back, you may need a new system or organization. Call me and we can discuss having an organizing and decluttering session to tidy things up.
Living Room Automation
Once you’ve dressed and ready to head out the door, you’’ pass through the living room. In the living room, you use the AI-integrated to make a voice command to control lighting and have it turn off and turn on at a specific time., You can set reminders for decluttering, and schedule maintenance for your entertainment systems and gadgets. For example: The Alexa App I mentioned earlier. It not only gives reminders, but you can have it make lists, get the weather, or ask a question.
In the living room, you can automatically control. Lights, shades, TVs, Thermostats, and more. There are IFTTs you can set up and program so that a trigger for a new action will occur when a certain action happens. Actions can range from sending notifications to adjusting smart home devices or creating calendar events. For example; when you return home from work the lights will turn on or the thermostat will adjust to raise the temperature in your home during cold climates. You can program a Roomba vacuum cleaner to keep up a dusty rug.

AI in the Laundry Room
In the laundry room, use smart washing machines. They optimize wash cycles based on load size and fabric type, send notifications when cycles are complete, and provide maintenance alerts. For example:
But how can you simplify all these devices and manage them without getting overwhelmed using multiple remotes? Logitech Harmony has designed a way to integrate the different apps with their Logitech devices
